When I painted Beer Mug and Wine Glass, I was interested in how two ordinary objects could become expressive simply through the way they hold and bend light. Their forms contrast — one solid and weighty, the other more delicate — yet they share a limited, sparkling palette that keeps them in quiet conversation. The yellowed backlight warms the scene, but the prisms within the glass immediately cool it, creating a shifting temperature across the surface. I wanted these objects to feel noteworthy not because of what they are, but because of how they reveal themselves when light moves through them. In this painting, simplicity becomes a kind of presence.
