🎓 Education & Foundation
Richard holds a Master of Fine Arts, a Master in Curriculum/Supervision & Leadership Development, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Teaching from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. These degrees laid the groundwork for a dual path—one rooted in artistic expression, the other in educational innovation and leadership.

Richard’s work has appeared in over 50 exhibitions across the Southeast, including the Weatherspoon Art Gallery, Greenhill Center for North Carolina Art, and the North Carolina Museum of Art. His solo shows—such as Alternative Views: Figures and Still Lifes and From a Glass Menagerie & More—highlight his ability to distill emotion and atmosphere into visual form.

He has served as a guest curator, juror, board member and arts instructor, shaping programs for institutions such as the Danville Virginia Arts Association, UNC-Greensboro, Greensboro Public Library and the Center for Creative Arts. His work in curriculum design and arts advocacy includes writing and co-producing a video series on the Comer Six Development Pathways, funded by the Rockefeller Foundation.

A frequent presenter at national conferences, Richard has contributed to initiatives led by the U.S. Department of Education, Yale University’s School Development Program, the North Carolina Department of Education, the N.C. Art Education Association and the National Conference on Critical Thinking and Reasoning. His leadership in art student learning approaches, art criticism and portfolio assessment, multi-disciplinary learning, character education, and school reform has impacted educators across the country.

Richard held roles as Director of Student Services, Teaching Students from youth through adulthood, Teacher on Special Assignment and Adjunct Instructor at Guilford Community College.
